A technical fault in an electrical substation in Sant Andreu has caused a widespread power outage in several areas of Barcelona and its metropolitan municipalities, initially affecting 90,000 customers.

The incident occurred two days after the first anniversary of a major blackout that affected Spain and Portugal. This new disruption has left numerous parts of the city without electricity, especially in the northern zone, including neighborhoods such as Horta, Sant Gervasi, Nou Barris, and Sant Andreu itself.
In addition to the Catalan capital, the outage has also impacted towns in the metropolitan area, such as Montcada i Reixac and Badalona. According to sources from the electricity company, although the initial number of affected customers was 90,000, some have already had their service restored in the first few hours.
Units from the Barcelona Fire Department, as well as technical personnel from the electricity company, have been dispatched to the site of the fault to manage the situation and restore service. The interruption of supply has generated a wave of comments on social media, with citizens wondering if it was a repeat of the massive blackout of April 28, 2025.

The lack of electricity has also affected some essential city services, such as the Horta Primary Care Center (CAP), which was left without power.
