The pavement, which incorporates biochar from the thermochemical treatment of olive pits and pine residue, is one of the two winning solutions from the challenge promoted by the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council, with the support of BIMSA and the BIT Habitat Foundation. This innovation was created by the companies Agustí i Masoliver (AMSA) and Asfaltos y Construcciones ELSAN in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
Its use, which will be tested soon in one of the public space works managed by BIMSA, could achieve a 75% reduction in polluting emissions compared to conventional pavement.
The award ceremony, presented by the specialized magazine CompromisoRSE, took place on October 27th at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid.
