The businessman and co-founder of Mediapro, Tatxo Benet, will be officially proposed as the new president of the business entity FemCat on January 22 during a conclave to be held at Can Jalpí castle, in Arenys de Munt. Although the proposal officially comes from the current delegated commission, chaired by Oriol Guixà, sources close to the former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, assure that he is the “dark hand” behind this operation.
“"It is a way to gain influence in the business sphere. Even more, if possible, than the enormous influence he already has."
The main objective of this move is to “dynamite” the regional financing agreement reached between the PSC and ERC, which FemCat had supported until now, albeit with reservations. Junts seeks to attract as many business people as possible to its economic agreement proposal, which is more ambitious than the Government's plan, in order to negotiate measures such as legally shielding ordinality or considering the higher cost of living in Catalonia.
The appointment of Benet, known for his strong political stance, could generate internal tensions within FemCat, as it dilutes the gesture of political centrality that the entity's applause for President Salvador Illa's financing proposal represented. It should be recalled that FemCat is a private foundation founded in 2004 that brings together about 500 business people and executives, and that Benet recently broke ties with the Cercle d'Economia due to disagreements.
