The new public transport tariffs for Barcelona in 2026 came into force this Thursday, bringing a less visible but significant change: the price hike for the Rodalies return ticket. This specific title, sold only by Renfe and not part of the integrated passes of the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM), increased from 5.3 to 5.8 euros.
This 9.4% rise eliminates any economic benefit for occasional travelers, as the new price is exactly the same as purchasing two single tickets, which currently cost 2.9 euros each.
The return ticket was primarily designed for those making a single round trip on the same day who do not hold multi-journey passes or season tickets.
In practice, the only remaining advantage is saving time at the ticket office or vending machines, as it allows users to acquire both journeys in a single transaction. This price parity applies across all fare zones.
