It has been 18 days since a train derailment in Gelida caused the latest major railway collapse in Catalonia. Authorities have warned that normal service will not be restored until April, fueling renewed outrage among users. The march is organized under the slogan "Without decent trains there is no future" and directly targets those responsible for the service's historical neglect.
The situation has been unsustainable for years.
The route of the protest, which begins at 5 PM, is symbolic: it starts in front of Estació de França, where the offices of Adif (the infrastructure manager) are located, and proceeds to Plaça de Sant Jaume, the seat of the Generalitat and the City Council. The conveners include platforms such as Dignitat a les Vies and Plataforma de Promoció del Transport Públic, supported by civil society organizations like Òmnium Cultural, CCOO, and UGT.
The demonstration has the support of political forces including Junts, ERC, the Comuns, and the CUP, who are sending prominent figures such as Jordi Turull and Oriol Junqueras. The PSC, however, will not attend, arguing that their responsibility lies in solving the problem from within the institutions. From the Government, the Minister of Territori, Sílvia Paneque, called for "unity" to find solutions, while acknowledging the right to protest.
“"They have every right to complain and show their anger with a system that does not work in a reasonable and effective manner."
This is not the only mobilization of the day. The ANC and the Consell de la República have called another protest at noon, at 12 PM, in front of the Rafael Casanova monument, under the slogan "Enough," demanding independence as the "only way" to resolve the deterioration of basic services.
