The event, held this Thursday, served as a platform for promoting Montero as a leader of this new political space. Rufián, ERC's spokesperson in Madrid, announced plans to continue this initiative with an upcoming event in Valencia featuring Mònica Oltra.
The gathering in Barcelona saw a significant presence from Podemos members, including former minister Ione Belarra, and figures from the Catalan left such as Mediapro founder Jaume Roures, and Comuns' mayoral candidate in Barcelona, Gerardo Pisarello. Former politician Xavier Domènech moderated the event.
“"It is part of our historical responsibility to combat fascism."
Despite Rufián's advocacy for this "new left," the event highlighted a certain distance from ERC's leadership, which was not significantly represented. Montero, for her part, reiterated her desire to "work with Gabriel" and maintained her usual feminist, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist discourse.
The stated goal is to "inspire" an alternative to a potential PP-Vox government, although the initiative has yet to define specific party names or electoral lists, and Podemos' recent results in some autonomous communities do not favor their position.
