The traditional Sant Jordi festival in Barcelona is being re-imagined for its 2026 edition. This year, La Rambla, historically a central hub for the festivities, will not host book or flower stalls due to ongoing renovation works. This decision means the activity will shift to nearby areas such as Avinguda del Portal de l’Àngel and Avinguda de la Catedral.
The established literary 'superilla' in the Eixample, a car-free zone dedicated to rose and book stalls, will maintain its structure and expand. This initiative aims to better distribute visitors across the city center and prevent large crowds, offering a smoother experience for the day.
The perimeter of the literary 'superilla' will extend along Passeig de Gràcia, between Avinguda Diagonal and Gran Via, and along Rambla de Catalunya. Additionally, several transversal sections around Passeig de Gràcia, including Diputació, Consell de Cent, Mallorca, Provença, Rosselló, and Còrsega streets, will also be pedestrianized. Two sections of Diagonal, up to Balmes, will be added. In Gràcia, a literary axis will be created on Carrer Gran de Gràcia, between Carrer de Sèneca and Rambla de Prat.
During the day, vehicles will only be allowed to circulate on the perimeter streets of the 'superilla', as well as on Aragó and València streets and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. The rest of the space within the large island will be reserved exclusively for pedestrians. The city council has announced that bicycles and personal mobility vehicles will also be prohibited in these pedestrianized areas, and Bicing stations in the vicinity will be temporarily suspended.
