The popular reporter Torito has opened up in a recent interview, revealing the financial struggles and dismissals he has faced throughout his extensive television career, despite his popularity.
Torito, known for his charismatic and transgressive personality, confessed to Semana magazine that, despite being a recognized figure on television, he has struggled to make ends meet. This situation led to a paradox: being a "superstar" who couldn't afford a taxi.
His career began with an early interest in television. After not being selected in an Antena 3 casting, he decided to move to Barcelona to study Fine Arts and started his professional career designing sets. His perseverance led him to another casting for the program Vitamina N, where he finally got in and created the character that would make him famous, including his distinctive dreadlocks.
“
"I was a superstar who couldn't afford a taxi."
Torito's success on Vitamina N caught the attention of Mediaset, which signed him for TNT. During this period, his often boundary-pushing reports caused him "many" problems, as he recalls. He admits that his audacity was key to staying in the media for over two decades, citing as an example a video where 100 euros were offered to the first person to undress in Madrid's Puerta del Sol, an action unthinkable today.
However, this same audacity was the reason for his dismissal from Telecinco. After a report from an erotic fair in Galicia, the management deemed it to be in bad taste. This dismissal coincided with the signing of his house contract, a moment that deeply affected him. Later, he was also dismissed from Zapeando, along with other collaborators, a situation that left him vulnerable.
“
"The management considered that I had made a report in bad taste, when they sent me to an erotic fair in Galicia. A girl was doing a show with a water bottle and a report was aired, which I had not edited, in which it seemed she was doing something… that was not liked. They decided to fire me and that affected me greatly."
Despite the setbacks, Torito found new opportunities on Balearic regional television and returned to work on channels such as Antena 3, Telecinco, and La Sexta. Currently, he refuses to reinvent himself as a collaborator on gossip shows, preferring to maintain his humorous essence and focusing on creating new radio formats, hoping to continue his career in the medium he loves so much.
