This decision, made last Friday, represents a significant advancement for uniting the two tram networks in Barcelona. However, the project still faces its most critical hurdle: the funding agreement.
The next stage involves the negotiation and approval of an agreement between the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia to determine each administration's financial contribution. Once this is resolved, the works can be put out to tender, with an estimated duration of 40 months, approximately three years and four months.
The new section, spanning 2.8 kilometers, will include the creation of three new stops: Diagonal-Cinc d'Oros, Balmes, and Casanova. Additionally, the Francesc Macià interchange is slated for adaptation to facilitate connections and passenger transfers.
