This new infrastructure, to be erected on the grounds of the Antic Mercat del Peix, will be part of a research complex alongside the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona Ciutadella (PRBB) and the Institut de Biologia Evolutiva (IBE). The building will span 8,000 square meters, host over 100 researchers, and involve an investment of 20 million euros.
“"Àgora's philosophy is to become a research hub to respond to society's major current challenges."
The project stands out for its commitment to move beyond diagnosis, seeking the implementation of concrete actions. Data and analysis will be combined with territorial alliances to generate real responses, with Barcelona serving as a reference and inspiration for other cities.
Among Àgora's main focuses are identifying emerging problems and needs of the 20 to 40 age group in areas such as housing, employment, and future prospects. Work will also be done on reimagining the justice system to reduce economic, social, and access inequalities, and on resilience to equip society with greater capacity to face current challenges.
The building has been conceived as a permeable space open to the public, where Barcelona's inhabitants will be a key asset in providing information and ensuring proximity to reality. This concept aims to move beyond the 'Think Tank' model towards a 'Do Tank', transforming knowledge into action.
