Throughout the weekend, the park's facilities and spaces will offer a wide variety of activities including itineraries, guided tours, dance, theater, music, poetry, sensory installations, workshops, gastronomy, and open house days. The aim is to assert Montjuïc as one of the main cultural hubs of the Catalan capital.
This year's edition focuses on three main axes: Remembering Montjuïc, with activities that recover the park's historical and living memory; Discovering Montjuïc, with proposals to explore its heritage, architecture, and natural spaces; and Living Montjuïc, which fosters participation and links between facilities, residents, and visitors.
Historical memory will play a prominent role with itineraries such as the Ruta de la botànica funerària (Route of Funeral Botany) at Montjuïc Cemetery, the Ruta del Fossar de la Pedrera (Route of the Quarry Graveyard), a tour about the 1936 Popular Olympics and the bombings of Barcelona, and a dramatized visit to the Teatre Lliure, titled (Re) viure el Lliure (Reliving the Lliure). The Teatre Lliure's Anniversary Celebration, marking its fifty years, will be a highlight with an open event at Plaça Margarida Xirgu.
Live arts will also be featured with Montjuïc Dansat (Montjuïc Dancing) in front of the MNAC, an afternoon of contemporary dance at Montjuïc Castle curated by Graner, a guided tour of the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia, the play El dol és aquella cosa amb ales (Grief is That Thing with Wings), the sensory experience Empremta dels nostres avantpassats (Imprint of Our Ancestors), and the labyrinth L’oblit també sap volar (Forgetting Also Flies) at Montjuïc Castle. Queer poetry will fill the Jardins de Laribal with the nocturnal recital de noche de plata hacia (towards silver night), promoted by the Joan Miró Foundation.
Gastronomy will be prominently featured with the second edition of La Colla de l’Arròs (The Rice Gathering) in the Jardins de Laribal, including historical dissemination, literature, music, and a popular rice dish. The Fontades Comunitàries (Community Fountains) will also be revived, with circus, cabaret, choral singing, tango, and family activities.
Other proposals include Dibuixem el Viu Montjuïc (Let's Draw Viu Montjuïc) with urban sketcher walks, and concerts at the Mahou Bravas Fest in the Poble Espanyol featuring artists like Miqui Puig and DJ Amable.
The initiative, co-organized and funded by various cultural institutions, the Sants-Montjuïc District, the Fourth Deputy Mayor's Office for Economy, Finance, Housing, and Tourism, and the Barcelona Institute of Culture, is financed through the tourist tax to promote a quality green and cultural public space.
