The educational center, which opened in 2016, has been operating in temporary modular cabins for nearly a decade. Although the permanent building was promised for 2022, current estimates suggest the move will not happen until the 2030-2031 academic year.
“"We will spend our thirteen years in a school made of cabins."
The district council approved a proposal by Barcelona en Comú to accelerate construction and adapt Kobe Square. The motion was supported by Junts, ERC, and PP, calling for a water point and picnic tables for student use.
The PSC government abstained from the vote. Councilor Maria Rosa Ciurana stated they are considering the water point but cannot accept permanent furniture in the public square. Maintenance costs for the temporary cabins have already exceeded 2 million euros.
