Residents of three blocks in Trinitat Vella had to leave their homes early Thursday morning. In total, about eighty people were affected and had to evacuate their residences by order of Barcelona Firefighters after noticing their buildings were shaking.
The incident occurred in the early hours, when 112 received calls from residents on Carrer del Pare Pérez del Pulgar, reporting tremors and feeling the floor move. Despite initial fear, after the necessary investigations, residents were able to return to their homes early in the morning. The City Council has assured that affected residents are being supported and communication is constant.
The council attributes the movement to the work of a compactor machine that Adif is using to reconfigure tracks between Vallbona and La Trinitat. According to the railway company, this machine is the most likely cause of the movements. The incident is unrelated to the sinkhole that occurred in the same area at the end of July.
The City Council demands that Adif reconsider these works and ensure minimal impact on residents when they resume. Adif sources have reported that the machine is now stopped as a precaution and a technical inspection of the affected properties is underway. Work will not resume until it is deemed safe.
The rest of the works in Vallbona continue normally, as the issues have been confined to a very specific point of the operation.
