Adidas's new advertising campaign for the 2026 Football World Cup, titled 'Backyard Legends', has selected an emblematic location in Badalona as its main set. The Pista Verda in the Llefià neighborhood, known as a meeting point for informal basketball and futsal games, hosted the filming of this five-minute short film.
The advertisement features the participation of global football stars such as Argentinian Leo Messi, young talent from FC Barcelona Lamine Yamal, and Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham. Also appearing are renowned figures like Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, American actor Timothée Chalamet, and football legends such as Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, and Alessandro Del Piero, the latter recreated digitally.
The short film's narrative follows Chalamet in his quest to assemble a team capable of defeating an unknown trio of street footballers. The ad concludes with Bad Bunny and Messi overseeing the recruited team.
Lamine Yamal expressed his enthusiasm for the World Cup: "I play how I play because of where I come from and the people I grew up with. It doesn't matter if it's a giant stadium or the Rocafonda park (Mataró), I just play with joy and personality. I can't wait to do it at this summer's World Cup," he stated in a press release from the brand.
The production stands out for its urban and 90s stadium aesthetic, featuring analog technology and period hairstyles. Adidas, besides being the protagonist of the ad, will be responsible for supplying the official ball for the 2026 World Cup and kits for 14 participating national teams.
