The agreement between the railway network administrator, Adif, and the main high-speed companies (Renfe, Iryo, and Ouigo) means that journeys between the two major cities will be 25 minutes longer starting Thursday, February 5. This measure was taken to adapt service operation while improvement and conservation tasks are carried out on the tracks.
To optimize and adapt the operation of the service while routine maintenance tasks are being carried out.
This service reorganization, which follows significant accumulated delays in recent weeks, has forced the cancellation of several routes. The Italian company Iryo confirmed that the affected trains are those departing from Madrid at 4:37 PM and those departing from Barcelona-Sants at 8:45 AM, effective “for the moment” until February 7.
For its part, Renfe has also modified its offer, canceling the Barcelona-Madrid route departing at 9:05 PM and two routes departing from Atocha at 8:27 PM and 9:07 PM. Affected passengers will be rebooked. These changes aim to alleviate network congestion, which was exacerbated by speed limitations imposed by the Ministry of Transport following previous incidents.
