Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmatí used Instagram to discuss her ongoing recovery from a fractured fibula and the historical integration challenges she faced in football.

The 28-year-old player from Sant Pere de Ribes is currently undergoing rehabilitation after sustaining a fractured left fibula in late November during training with the Spanish national team for the UEFA Women’s Nations League. After nearly two months, she has stopped using crutches.

"The hardest thing about finding a place in a men's sport is feeling left out; I used to change alone in the referees' locker room for both matches and training sessions."

Through a Q&A session on Instagram, where she has over two million followers, Bonmatí reflected on her career path and the inherent difficulties of establishing herself in a traditionally male-dominated sport.
Despite the challenging recovery process, which included “Injecting myself with heparin every morning for a month,” the injury has also allowed her to enjoy personal moments, such as celebrating her birthday with family or walking around Barcelona, activities previously impossible due to her “frenetic life.”
