Opposition parties at Badalona City Council have formally requested an extraordinary plenary session this March to demand explanations from Mayor Xavier García Albiol regarding the local homelessness crisis.

The PSC, ERC, Comuns, and Guanyem have united after two homeless individuals died on the streets this week, bringing the yearly total to four. The official request will be filed on March 9, requiring the government to hold the session within fifteen days.

"The Badalona that suffers has no one to govern it. Urgent responses are needed for an unsustainable situation."

A key demand is the reopening of the Can Bofi Vell municipal shelter, which has been closed for nearly two years. Despite the deaths, Mayor Albiol has repeatedly rejected this move. The opposition is calling for a comprehensive shock plan and better emergency resources.
Deputy Mayor Rosa del Amo lamented the deaths but pointed out that Barcelona recorded higher numbers last year. She stated that social services are currently looking for specific solutions for vulnerable individuals in Badalona.
