The Badalona City Council, led by Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, will request the declaration of an emergency zone following the "historic" damage caused by the sea storm to the Barca Maria promenade this Tuesday.

The Municipal Government of Badalona made this decision after assessing the severe impact on the northern coastline, especially the Barca Maria section connecting to the municipality of Montgat. The damage, according to existing documentation, is the most significant ever recorded on the city's promenade.

"We are facing the most important destruction in the history of the Badalona promenade. It will be necessary to completely rebuild the stretch running from the north of the city to the Maresme area."

One of Mayor Albiol's main concerns is the safety of the railway line running parallel to the affected promenade. He pointed out that the erosion could have compromised the infrastructure of the tracks, referencing recent incidents in Andalusia.
This area is heavily used by pedestrians and athletes, and the City Council indicated that the total magnitude of the damage cannot be precisely assessed until weather conditions improve. Albiol demanded immediate action and urged Adif to urgently determine whether it is safe for trains to continue circulating on this section.

"It is essential to act quickly to guarantee safety."
