From February to June 2026, Barcelona has hosted a significant volume of architecture-related activities, exceeding initial expectations. 910 events have been recorded, including 270 routes, 241 debates and conferences, 133 exhibitions, 123 workshops, 78 guided tours, and 65 contemporary culture proposals. Additionally, 411 educational actions have reached 11,000 students.
The House of Architecture, located in the former headquarters of Editorial Gustavo Gili, has become a central hub for the event, receiving 30,656 visits by June. This space hosts two key exhibitions: "Barcelona 2035. A City to Live In" and "Barcelona = (Diversity + Intensity) x Complexity", accompanied by a large interactive model of the city.
The event's impact has extended throughout the city, with Ciutat Vella concentrating the highest number of activities (185), followed by Sants-Montjuïc (146), L'Eixample (136), and Sant Martí (124). 64 activities have also been organized outside Barcelona, gathering nearly 500 participants.
The program includes future notable exhibitions such as "Picasso: the architect" at the Museu Picasso and "Jujol, an architecture in progress" at the MNAC, as well as the closing of the traveling exhibition "From party walls to facades. A legacy for the city" in Ciutat Vella.
On October 5th, coinciding with World Architecture Day, shop windows in Barcelona will display models by local architects. The official closing of the World Architecture Capital will take place in December, with a public celebration where the baton will be passed to Beijing, the next host in 2029.
The activities of Barcelona 2026 have garnered significant media attention, reaching 274,000 viewers through RTVE and BTV. The UIA World Congress of Architects 2026 exceeded expectations with over 10,000 international participants.
