This new space, located at number 44 of Passeig Joan de Borbó, will span over 500 square meters. The area will be distributed into various multi-purpose rooms, workshops, offices, storage facilities, and services, offering a meeting point and activity hub for neighborhood associations.
The premises will occupy three floors of a building that has recently been rehabilitated to house 18 subsidized housing units, which have already been handed over to their occupants. The renovation will include the demolition of floor slabs to restore the double height of the ground floor and adapt the layout to the new uses, with the installation of new partitions, false ceilings, flooring, and finishes.
Additionally, the facade's carpentry will be renewed to improve the building's energy efficiency. The ground floor will feature a common area, an open workshop, and a multi-purpose room, while the basement will be used for storage and an installations room. On the mezzanine floor, two additional rooms will be set up.
The improvements also include thermal and acoustic insulation, the renovation and implementation of new facilities, and adaptation to current needs to ensure maximum energy efficiency. The works are estimated to be completed during the first quarter of 2027.
This project, known as Llar Barceloneta, involved the comprehensive rehabilitation of the property to create 18 social and affordable rental homes. Some of these homes were allocated to neighborhood residents who are users of social services. The City Council ceded the building to the Salas Foundation and the Hàbitat3 Foundation, which formed a joint venture to carry out the rehabilitation with a municipal subsidy. The apartments were delivered on March 28, including 12 affordable rentals, one for a resident with a right of return, and five for social entities.
