The Barcelona City Council approved on Tuesday the urban planning modification required to establish the future Carmen Thyssen Museum in the Palau Marcet, located at the iconic corner of Passeig de Gràcia and Gran Via.

The project, supported by PSC, Junts, PP, and Vox, involves the restoration of the former Comedia cinema. The plan ensures the preservation of the building's heritage while restricting complementary commercial uses to 16% of the total space.

"It will be one of the city's reference art museums, alongside the MNAC, Macba, or the Picasso Museum."

Laia Bonet · Deputy Mayor for Urbanism
The proposal faced opposition from Barcelona en Comú and ERC, who raised concerns regarding the economic logic and the urban impact on the protected historical structure.
