The Barcelona City Council approved on Thursday the urban development project for the Vallcarca Central Park and launched the tender for 47 new public housing units in the Gràcia district.

This decision aims to resolve a transformation process that has been stalled for over two decades. The new park will cover 10,000 square meters, creating a green lung between Vallcarca Avenue, the historic viaduct, and Cambrils street.

"The transformation of the neighborhood could not wait any longer."

Laia Bonet · First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Gràcia
The housing project includes two buildings: one with 20 apartments on Farigola street and another with 27 units on Mare de Déu del Coll street. These developments are part of a broader plan to revitalize areas previously occupied by vacant lots.
Mayor Jaume Collboni's administration expects the park to be completed by 2027. This project updates a long-standing urban plan that began in 2002 but was halted due to the financial crisis.
