The Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council have launched a 700,000 euro investment plan to upgrade road infrastructure for the 2026 Tour de France.

Preparations for the world's most prestigious cycling event, scheduled for July 4-6, 2026, involve over fifteen municipalities. The Barcelona Provincial Council (DIBA) has allocated 481,000 euros to improve urban sections in towns such as Sitges, Castelldefels, and Vic.

"Our intention is to help the town councils as much as possible, especially the smaller ones that lack the capacity for these works."

Maintenance works include repairing cracked pavement, leveling manhole covers, and temporarily removing street furniture like bollards or speed bumps. An additional 200,000 euros will be spent on interurban roads, with 35,000 euros dedicated to mountain pass signage.
The city of Barcelona will manage its own road adjustments independently. Municipal sources confirmed that technical reviews of the two stages passing through the capital are currently underway.
