The European Mobility Week (EMW) is celebrated in Barcelona from September 16th to 22nd with a wide range of activities inviting citizens to get to know the urban mobility services and infrastructure up close. This year, the city will host around forty activities across its districts, with a special focus on promoting public transport and sustainable mobility.
The traditional open days for public transport will take place from September 17th to 20th, offering 2,000 bookable spots starting Monday, September 14th. Among this year's novelties are visits to the extension works of the L8 of FGC, a tour of the Municipal Cleaning Center in Joan Miró Park, and a visit to the Gaudí ghost metro station.
Additionally, historical vehicles from Bombers de Barcelona will be exhibited in Gran de Gràcia and along the Sants – Creu Coberta axis, coinciding with the Obrim Carrers event. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will also present an exhibition of classic and new-generation buses on Passeig de Gràcia on September 18th and 19th.
Starting Monday, September 21st, TMB's express bus line X1 will be extended to Zona Universitària. This extension will more quickly connect the city center with the university area, enhancing intermodality with other public transport options like the metro, tram, and interurban buses.
This year's slogan, "Mobility for All," advocates for universal access to public transport and intergenerational justice, promoting quality and sustainable transport for everyone. Barcelona aims to raise awareness about the benefits of a friendly city, reduce private vehicle use, and encourage sustainable travel, as over 80% of journeys in the city are already made using sustainable modes.
