The city of Barcelona is celebrating this March 2026 twenty years since the arrival of the Mobile World Congress, an event that has turned the city into a global tech hub.

The relationship between the fair and the city began in 2006, when the event moved from Cannes to the Montjuïc venue. At that time, the iPhone and Android had not yet hit the market, and the event was known as 3GSM World Congress.

"It is an ecosystem that meets once a year in Barcelona and tells the whole world what will happen in the coming years."

Francesc Fajula · CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona
Over these two decades, MWC has evolved from a mobile-only fair to a showcase for Artificial Intelligence, 5G, and virtual reality, recovering pre-pandemic figures with 109,000 visitors in 2025.
