The Barcelona City Council reports a 6% gender pay gap, a figure notably lower than the 16% recorded in public administrations across Catalonia and Spain according to the Diputació de Barcelona.

The report released in March 2026 shows that the local administration in Barcelona has narrowed the wage gap. While the average difference in the province's counties is 6.3%, the broader public sector maintains a ten-point higher gap.
Women make up 56% of the workforce with an average age of 49. However, horizontal segregation remains high: women represent 99% of nursery school staff and 88% of social services, but are scarce in maintenance and security roles.
In the Local Police, women represent only 18% of the force, dropping to 8% in leadership roles. Despite the low numbers, female presence in command positions has increased by two points since 2018.
