The Barcelona City Police and Mossos d'Esquadra carried out an operation this Wednesday morning to evict approximately 60 people living in a large settlement in the Sagrera area, within the Sant Andreu district.

The intervention began before 8:00 AM on land owned by Adif, near the Treball Digne bridge. Traffic was temporarily suspended until 10:30 AM as residents left the site without any reported incidents.
Local authorities stated the eviction followed a report from the Barcelona Fire Department. After an inspection on Tuesday, triggered by a small fire last Saturday, experts warned of a very serious and imminent risk to the safety of those living in the makeshift structures.

"Very serious and imminent risk for the people living there."

The settlement had been active for about two years, mostly housing men working as scrap collectors. While social services were activated, local organizations criticized the lack of housing alternatives and the absence of prior notice for the vulnerable population.
