The Barcelona Comic Fair opens its 44th edition this Friday at Pavilion 8 of the Fira de Montjuïc, facing a significant reduction in space due to ongoing construction at the venue.

The event, an undisputed benchmark in the sector, has had to restructure its usual offering into a 28,000-square-meter area, nearly half of what was typical in previous years. This limitation has forced the organization to forgo the Plaça de l'Univers, one of the most iconic outdoor spaces for managing visitor flow.
To ensure capacity control, the organization has eliminated physical ticket booths and centralized ticket sales online. Despite space restrictions, the program maintains a wide variety of activities, including twelve thematic exhibitions, notably those dedicated to Paracuellos by Carlos Giménez and the universe of The Lord of the Rings, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the first film's release.

"We have had to pull out all the stops to make everything fit and flow."

One of the most relevant points of this edition is the historic milestone for the award for the best work by a Spanish author, which will be awarded to a woman for the first time, as all nominees are female authors. Furthermore, the fair continues to support education and the industry with spaces like Comic Kids and Comic Pro.
With a budget of nearly one million euros, the organization has sought to keep ticket prices stable despite rising operating costs. These space measures are expected to remain in place provisionally while construction continues at Fira de Montjuïc, scheduled until 2029.
