Renfe punctuality reports reveal that half of the Rodalies trains serving the Barcelona core arrived late throughout 2025, positioning the service as the least reliable in Spain.

According to official Renfe data, trains operating in the Barcelona metropolitan area registered an on-time performance of only 50% throughout 2025. This figure places the Catalan short-distance network at the bottom of the 13 state nuclei, far behind Madrid (68%) or Bilbao (87%), and even Seville (58%).
This low punctuality is calculated using Renfe's criterion, which considers a schedule fulfilled if the train passes the station a maximum of three minutes after the scheduled time. The 50% annual average was worsened by critical months like July, when punctuality hit rock bottom with only 41.7% of trains arriving on time.
Regarding the severity of the delays, the average delay for trains running off-schedule is around 20 minutes on the Catalan network. This figure is significantly higher than in other nuclei, as Seville registers an average of 13 minutes and Madrid is below 12 minutes.
Finally, the data shows that 37.4% of the total delay time in Rodalies Barcelona is directly attributable to incidents involving the operator Renfe. The remaining 60% is attributed to causes not attributable to the company, such as infrastructure problems, circulation management, or meteorological phenomena.
