A commercial court in Barcelona applied the Second Chance Law to forgive a one million euro debt owed by a businesswoman from Cornellà de Llobregat who was ruined by her brother's unfair practices in 2011.

The businesswoman, who managed a company dedicated to manufacturing bed bases, witnessed how her brother and capital partner created a parallel company without informing her. This act of unfair competition caused the man to take 80% of the clients, making it impossible for the woman to meet her payments.

"He left me alone and offered prices below mine."

The businesswoman · Affected by bankruptcy
The bankruptcy situation began in September 2011 and led to a genuine economic and personal ordeal. The woman recalls that losing clients quickly led to numerous problems with non-payments, in addition to causing her great pain due to the betrayal of her brother, to whom she felt very close.
The situation also resulted in psychological problems due to the stress she was experiencing. Finally, the woman was able to take advantage of the Second Chance Law in 2021 after being recommended to seek legal counsel. The lawyer Marta Bergadà, from Bergadà Advocats, was responsible for handling the case, achieving the cancellation of the debt of just over one million euros.
