The city of Barcelona has decided to mobilize financial resources to support Colombia following the earthquake that occurred last Monday. The sum of 100,000 euros will be channeled through an existing cooperation agreement between both parties, enabling a swift and direct response to urgent on-the-ground needs.
Deputy Mayor Albert Batlle and Commissioner Richard Sánchez met on Tuesday with representatives of Colombian entities based in Barcelona to convey the city's solidarity and finalize the details of the aid. The meeting was attended by various associations, including Fedascat, Aesco, Asocascol, Huitaca, Mujeres Palante, Maloka Colombia, Juntanza Colombiana, Guardianes de la Memoria, Mareas, and Buramu.
Furthermore, the Barcelona Fire Department has offered to send specialized technical personnel for the assessment of collapsed structures and emergency management. This offer is part of the coordinated international response mechanisms and awaits the mobilization of personnel through the competent authorities.
The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has personally conveyed his support and solidarity to his counterpart in Cali, Alejandro Eder. The collaboration between Barcelona and Santiago de Cali has a long history, with agreements signed since 2014 to support the city's library network and social projects. Between 2024 and 2026, the City Council has already allocated over 554,000 euros to five cooperation projects in affected areas of Colombia.
