The educational community in Barcelona and across Catalonia is preparing for a week of intense protests from March 16 to 20, 2026, involving territorial strikes and major demonstrations.

Major unions including USTEC-STEs and CGT have confirmed the strike action despite a recent partial agreement between the Generalitat and other labor groups. Protesters are demanding structural changes to address high classroom ratios, wage stagnation, and a lack of resources in public schools.
The action begins on Monday, March 16, focusing on the Barcelonès region. Traffic disruptions are expected starting at 7:00 AM in key areas such as Plaça de Lesseps and Poblenou, followed by a midday march from Plaça d'Urquinaona to the regional government headquarters.
The week will culminate in a nationwide strike on Friday, March 20. A massive rally is scheduled to depart from Plaça de Tetuan at 12:30 PM, heading towards the Parliament of Catalonia to demand immediate investment in the educational system.
