The Catalan capital has been recognized in the Revive Our Oceans category as a global model for coastal climate adaptation. This award highlights the transformation plan for the Mar Bella waterfront, a project with a budget of 150 million euros aimed at rehabilitating 1.8 kilometers of coastline and creating 22 hectares of resilient coastal area.
The Earthshot Prize, founded by Prince William of England in 2020, rewards global environmental solutions to address the planet's greatest challenges. Barcelona's nomination underscores its work in coastal resilience, nature-based solutions, public spaces, and water management.
As a 2026 finalist, Barcelona will receive support to accelerate the replication of its climate adaptation solutions in other coastal cities, enhancing its international visibility and fostering knowledge exchange with governments and industry professionals.
