Between April 22nd and July 31st, the Barcelona Fire Department conducted its forest campaign, registering only 2 forest fires within the municipal limits, affecting a total of 0.48 hectares. This limited figure is attributed to preventive actions deployed since spring, increased surveillance of the territory, and improved operational resources for the forest sector.
The Service for Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire Extinction, and Rescue (SPCPEIS) has reinforced its operational presence in Collserola by activating the Vallvidrera Park, increasing human and material resources, and continuously monitoring meteorological conditions to anticipate risk situations.
Between April 22nd and July 31st, 208 preventive forest patrols were carried out in Collserola and urban-forest interface zones. These actions involve inspecting access routes, forest paths, hydrants, and water points. During the same period, 42 meteorological pre-alerts were activated, 10 of which reached critical levels, leading to preventive reinforcements and special surveillance.
These tasks are complemented by informational sessions in mountain neighborhoods, operational drills, and maintenance work on protection strips to reduce Collserola's risk of major forest fires.
In parallel, the Barcelona Fire Department has supported the Generalitat in extinguishing four forest fires in the metropolitan area (Montcada i Reixac, Tiana, Gavà, and Cervelló), with a global impact of approximately 77 hectares.
The 2026 campaign also includes the incorporation of seven new light Urban fire engines, with an investment of 3.47 million euros. These vehicles, intended to modernize the fleet, are designed to operate in narrow streets and improve response in the initial stages of a fire, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
The Barcelona Fire Department reminds the public that August and September remain particularly sensitive months for forest fire risk, and the specific campaign deployment will continue to be fully operational. The Barcelona City Council urges citizens to exercise maximum caution in natural spaces.
