Underwater rugby continues to consolidate its presence in Barcelona and Catalonia with the celebration of the 13th International City of Barcelona Trophy – BCN CUP. The event, held at the Montjuïc diving pool, has gained importance year after year, attracting international teams from various European countries.
Organized by the BCN Rugby Subaquàtic Club, the tournament reflects the expansion of this sport, which aims to become part of the Olympic Games. To achieve this goal, it is essential to broaden its global presence and increase the number of practitioners.
Underwater rugby is a game played underwater, with the objective of getting a ball into the opposing team's metal goal. The goals are located at the bottom of the pool, between 3.5 and 5 meters deep, at each end of the playing area.
The ball used is designed to sink, as it contains saltwater or glycerin for negative buoyancy. This allows the ball to be moved underwater and passes to be made that can reach up to three meters in distance.
