Barcelona's candidacy focuses on Ciutat Meridiana to join efforts with the Generalitat de Catalunya in public policies against inequalities. This new investment of €25M, added to the €11.3M already allocated to the Zona Nord, aims to incorporate new actions and approaches to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and ensure equal opportunities and urban cohesion.
The project pivots on four main axes: intervention in public space and facilities, improving accessibility and mitigating climate change, increasing educational leisure opportunities for young people, and promoting lifelong learning and professional training. A total of 32 actions will be developed between 2027 and 2031.
In terms of public space, an investment of 10 million euros is planned to transform interior blocks, improve accessibility, and renovate the service network in areas with steep slopes, as well as to boost the facilities of the Parc de l'Aqüeducte.
Regarding housing, 1 million euros will be allocated to facilitate the installation of up to 10 new elevators, addressing a key challenge arising from the topography. The interior renovation of over 150 homes of vulnerable residents and aid for upgrading to energy-efficient lighting and appliances are also planned.
Ecological transition includes increasing shaded areas by over 1,200 m², installing cooling features, and planting new trees. Access to Collserola will also be improved, and the Can Cuiàs valley will be renaturalized.
Policies for adolescents and young people focus on sports promotion with a socio-educational perspective, prevention of risk behaviors, and family support. In the labor field, professional training is planned, including a specialization in the railway sector at the Institut Pablo R. Picasso.
The candidacy's definition was built through a participatory process involving professionals, residents, and neighborhood entities, gathering shared diagnoses and prioritizing objectives.
