This project, located between Entença and Rocafort streets, will convert the current children's park into an area designed for cooling off during the summer months. The new space, covering approximately 42 square meters, is conceived as an accessible refuge for family use, aiming to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.
Municipal sources have indicated that this initiative will provide an alternative to increasingly high summer temperatures and, at the same time, expand leisure options for children in public spaces. The project is part of the expansion of the climate refuge network in the Catalan capital.
The «water park» will include various games such as jets and sprinklers, adapted for different ages and with safety measures like non-slip pavement and a drainage system. Furthermore, it has been designed to be accessible to people with functional diversity. The facilities will operate from June to September, activated by a button to limit water consumption to a maximum of 10 cubic meters per day, seeking a balance between refreshment and responsible resource management.
The total investment for this project is 220,000 euros. Concurrently, urban furniture on Mistral Avenue will be reorganized, fences will be installed during the water play area's operational period, and access points will be adapted. The City Council anticipates having eight similar spaces across the city this summer, reaching 230 by the end of the year, with the goal that every resident has a water play area within 5 to 10 minutes of their home.
