The Government Commission of the Barcelona City Council has approved the call for these grants, which will run for two years, until September 30, 2028. The aim is to reduce pollution generated by the approximately 24,000 combustion engine mopeds registered in the city, which produce around 3,000 tons of CO2 annually.
To be eligible for the subsidy, it is essential to scrap the old moped and present proof of purchase for the new electric vehicle. Purchases made from March 1, 2026, onwards will be accepted. The free scrapping service and certification are available through B:SM.
The council estimates that around 18,000 combustion engine mopeds regularly circulate in Barcelona. The initiative has a budget of 15 million euros and includes future calls for charging infrastructure and further moped subsidies between 2028 and 2030.
