The Barcelona City Council has allocated 3.2 million euros for the comprehensive renovation of 12 dog recreation areas spread across seven city districts, as part of the Pla Endreça.

The works, extending until 2027, involve replacing sand surfacing with accessible concrete pathways and installing new perimeter fences with double gates to enhance the safety and functionality of these spaces.
In addition to structural improvements, the irrigation network and drainage system will also be upgraded. New urban furniture, including benches, bins, fountains, tree protection elements, and lighting, will be added, creating more comfortable and functional environments for both animals and their owners.
The areas to benefit from these improvements are located in various parts of the city, such as Mestre Balcells gardens, Centre del Poblenou park, Maquinista park, Poblenou park, Font dels Ocellets gardens, Monterols park, Indústria gardens, Sagrada Família square, Clot park, and the gardens of Málaga, Can Mantega, and Joana Tomàs.
Currently, Barcelona has 232 dedicated dog spaces, covering over 875,000 square meters. Additionally, there is the dog zone at Llevant beach, which allows pets during the bathing season.
