The subsidies, announced in late August, will offer up to 400 euros for assisted pedaling vehicles and up to 800 euros for cargo bicycles. This initiative has a projected allocation of four million euros over the next four years, until 2030.
Although the first official call will be published during 2027, purchases made from December 1, 2026, will be eligible once the regulatory bases are approved. Both residents registered in the city and companies with their registered office in Barcelona can apply for these grants, which will cover a maximum of 40% of the bicycle's cost, excluding VAT.
In parallel, the City Council continues to improve cycling infrastructure with actions on key routes such as Meridiana and Diagonal. These improvements aim to connect the existing network of 270 kilometers of bike lanes and 1,200 kilometers of cycle paths. The Bicing fleet is also expanding with nearly 1,000 new bicycles, bringing the total to 8,000 units.
These measures are part of Barcelona's Climate Plan and Bike Agenda 2026-2027, aiming to reduce pollutant emissions. The grants are intended to make sustainable mobility more accessible for lower-income groups, correcting imbalances and promoting the renewal of the cycling fleet, drawing inspiration from successful experiences in other European cities.
