A resident of Barcelona has been admitted to the city's Hospital Clínic for isolation and observation, following exposure to hantavirus, although she remains asymptomatic.

The woman, who came into contact with the virus during a flight, has been transferred to the hospital. According to the hospital's assistant medical director, Toni Castells, the patient will be isolated in a room and kept under observation. At present, she is considered a contact rather than an active patient.
The exposure to the virus occurred on an airplane, where the Barcelona resident and another woman from Alicante were seated near a Dutch citizen. The latter was accompanying the remains of her husband, who is considered the initial case of the outbreak detected on the cruise ship MV Hondius. The Dutch woman was forced to leave the plane due to her health condition, was hospitalized, and passed away the following day.
Upon arrival at the Clínic, the woman will undergo an examination to confirm her asymptomatic status, and a blood and saliva PCR test will be performed. The results of this initial test are expected within approximately 24 hours. If the test is negative, medical protocol dictates a second test be conducted after seven days to ensure negativity.

"The woman will be isolated in a room and will be under observation, considered for now a contact and not a patient."
