According to data presented at the IMEX fair in Frankfurt, the Catalan capital organized 166 meetings, placing it only behind Lisbon and Paris. This result represents a step forward compared to the previous year and keeps the city in the world's 'top 5' for the twenty-fifth consecutive year.
Barcelona's success is based on its specialization in strategic sectors. The city holds the world's first place in scientific congresses, second in the medical field, and fourth in the technology sector. This attraction capacity is key to the local economy, as congress tourism accounts for approximately 20% of total annual visitors.
To maintain this leadership, administrations and the private sector have reinforced the MICE Fund with an investment of 2.8 million euros for the 2026-2027 period. The goal is to continue attracting international bids and boost the economic and academic impact of these events in the city.
