Barcelona City Council is set to approve the urban plan for the future Thyssen Museum at the former Cine Comedia following an agreement between Jaume Collboni's government and Junts.

The political deal ensures a majority for the PSC in next week's vote. Junts highlighted that the negotiation has secured greater heritage protection for the Palau Marcet and a significant reduction in commercial use, which will drop from 25% to 16% of the total area.
The architectural project, led by OUA and Casper Mueller Kneer Architects, includes the full restoration of the facades. The museum will house Carmen Thyssen's private collection, focusing on the history of Barcelona and the Eixample district, alongside temporary exhibition spaces and an auditorium.

"Pedestrians will stop to contemplate this building just as they do with La Pedrera or Casa Batlló."

Jordi Martí · Junts municipal leader
