Barcelona City Council has launched the second edition of the Christmas light festival, which this year will be largely funded through the tourist tax and will extend to new areas of the city.

The total budget for the lighting installation amounts to 4.6 million euros. Of this amount, 65% will be covered by revenue from the tourist tax, a measure that will allow for the deployment of a network of 130 kilometers of illuminated spaces throughout the Catalan capital.
The artistic proposal, which has the collaboration of ADI-FAD, will reach new locations such as Rambla Prim and Passeig Maragall. In addition, the 'Galet' design is being brought back, which will be installed in Plaça de Sant Miquel and various municipal markets.
The expansion of the lighting will include for the first time the Avinguda del Paral·lel in its entirety, as well as around fifty ornamental fountains. At the same time, a specific budget of 204,000 euros has been allocated to reinforce lighting in streets affected by long-term construction works.
As a community initiative, the Mercat de la Marina will host a pilot project where drawings by students from local schools will be transformed into light projections, thus integrating local artistic creation into the festival.
