The intervention will transform this 4,300 m² space, which houses the neighborhood market, aiming to make it a more "inclusive space adapted to the daily life needs" of Barceloneta residents. The project includes expanding and improving the accessibility of the existing children's play area, incorporating water games and shaded areas, as well as renovating significant portions of the square's pavements and the underground car park, along with changing the street furniture.
Mayor Jaume Collboni highlighted that this action seeks to "recover many years of underinvestment" in a "very cohesive" neighborhood and respond to residents' demands for quality spaces and services, with the goal of "allowing residents to stay in their neighborhoods".
In parallel, the council is advancing other key projects for Barceloneta, such as the reform of Pepe Rubianes street, part of the Neighborhood Plan, with a budget of 5 million euros and currently in the tender phase, taking into account resident contributions.
These transformations are part of a broader neighborhood plan, endowed with 46 million euros, which is already 70% executed. It includes investments in public space (€17.8M), facilities (€21.5M), and public housing rehabilitation (€6.8M). Notable projects include the future CAP Barceloneta health center on Passeig de Joan de Borbó, 44, and the expansion of the Escola Bressol Municipal la Mar nursery school, which will increase its capacity from 63 to 100 places with an investment of 1.1 million euros.
Regarding housing, 18 municipal apartments on Passeig de Joan de Borbó have been rehabilitated, with 13 already allocated. Additionally, on Pinzón street, 81 homes for the elderly are being renovated.
