The Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya have agreed to renew the coordination framework between the Guàrdia Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra, active since 2005.

The agreement was finalized in the Presidency Commission following a deal between Junts per Barcelona and Jaume Collboni's administration. The goal is to modernize a framework deemed outdated for the city's current social reality.

"The agreement responded to an urban and social reality very different from the one we have today."

Jordi Martí Galbis · President of the Junts municipal group
This update will grant the Guàrdia Urbana new powers, including the ability to process all types of citizen reports. The final text is already agreed upon with the Interior Department and awaits formal signing.
Additionally, a new strategy against youth gangs was approved, focusing on the Nou Barris district to address the rise in incidents involving knives reported between 2025 and early 2026.
