The city of Barcelona recorded its first torrid night of 2026 this Friday, May 29th, with temperatures surpassing 25 degrees Celsius in several areas.

Amidst an atypical heatwave for late May, some Barcelona neighborhoods have experienced nighttime temperatures above 25 ºC. This phenomenon, increasingly common and occurring earlier each year, signals the onset of uncomfortable nights due to persistent heat.
A combination of an intense warm air mass, poor atmospheric ventilation, and a strong anticyclone contributed to keeping thermometers above the torrid night threshold. The provisional minimum temperature at the Fabra Observatory – RACAB was 25.3 ºC, the first recorded in May at this location.
Other areas such as the Gràcia neighborhood (25.2 ºC) and Tibidabo (25.0 ºC) also surpassed this threshold. Districts like Sant Gervasi, les Corts, the Eixample, and the betevé station in Poblenou came very close.
Although strictly termed a torrid night, as minimum temperatures might slightly decrease with the afternoon sea breeze, the heat is expected to subside in the coming days, potentially pausing this count temporarily.
