Monsters and monster hunters have become the undisputed stars of this year's Easter cakes. Figures of the Demogorgons from the series Stranger Things and the warriors from K-Pop Demon Hunters are the most requested, sharing space with timeless classics such as Barça, Son Goku, or, more recently, Bluey.
The Barcelona Pastry Guild has indicated that prices will remain stable, although a slight increase is expected due to the rise in the IPC. Chocolate figures will be sold for between 40 and 80 euros, depending on their size. As for cakes, the candied fruit cake remains the favorite, followed by butter cream, whipped cream, or truffle cakes, with an approximate cost of between 30 and 40 euros for four or five people.
“"A very fashionable series, 'Stranger Things', is having great success, and then the warriors from 'K-Pop Demon Hunters', in addition to perennial characters like those from 'Lilo & Stitch', which also work very well."
Also on the list of favorites are Futbol Club Barcelona players, especially Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, not forgetting the club's crest. Zaguirre highlighted that 'this year, moreover, we have a good team'.
Beyond the figures, cakes continue to be a central element on Easter tables. The candied fruit cake, with its sponge cake, jam, and syrup, topped with a chocolate egg, is the most demanded. It is followed by butter cakes, such as Sara, and the classic whipped cream and truffle or all-chocolate cakes.
The Guild is collaborating once again with the University of Barcelona on a scientific dissemination project. This campaign, the character Mia, a chocolate figure, represents an astronomer, coinciding with the solar eclipse. The cakes will include a QR code to access information about astronomy.
Furthermore, the Guild has sought to give special prominence to Easter eggs, of all sizes and colors, to decorate the cakes. They have installed ten giant eggs, designed by pastry chefs reinterpreting the imagery of Antoni Gaudí, in the Hypostyle Room of Park Güell. This initiative is part of the park's centenary and the Gaudí Year. On April 9, a popular vote will be held to choose one of the eggs, which will be moved to the Chocolate Museum, while the rest will be used for a popular chocolate event with schools in the area.
