The lithium-ion batteries in electric bicycles are sensitive to extreme heat. When temperatures are very high, protection systems may temporarily limit recharging to ensure battery safety and condition. This can lead to a temporary reduction in the availability of a portion of the fleet, especially during the central hours of the day.
In light of this situation, Bicing recommends that users plan their journeys in advance using the mobile application, which provides real-time information on bike and station availability.
The activated plan combines technical, operational, and logistical actions to minimize the impact and ensure service reliability. These measures respond to the growing popularity of electric bicycles, which currently make up 60% of the total fleet and account for nearly 80% of trips by the more than 170,000 subscribers.
