The Service of Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire Extinction and Rescue (SPCPEIS) has launched the preventive device for the Festa Major de Gràcia 2026, which begins this afternoon with the opening speech in the plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. Since early August, the Barcelona Firefighters have been carrying out prevention and verification activities in the spaces that will host festive events, aiming to guarantee the best safety conditions and the response capacity of emergency services.
Personnel from the Eixample and Vall d’Hebron fire stations have conducted preventive inspections to verify key aspects for potential interventions. Access routes to streets and squares, accessibility for emergency vehicles and aerial ladders, and the functionality of hydrants, checking water flow and pressure, have been reviewed. These actions help identify possible operational constraints and ensure rapid access for the department's resources.
The Barcelona Firefighters will maintain constant monitoring of conditions in areas with high public attendance. Additionally, special devices will be deployed during events involving pyrotechnic elements or fire, such as the 'matinades de foc', the parade, and the children's and adult 'correfocs'. This operation is coordinated with other municipal services to ensure maximum safety.
This year's deployment coincides with the progressive incorporation of seven new light urban fire engines into the Barcelona Firefighters' fleet, a municipal investment of 3.47 million euros. These vehicles are specifically designed to operate in urban environments with narrow streets, improving intervention team mobility, access to difficult points, and increasing response speed in emergencies.
